Monday Morning Motivation
“Get Infected”
|
|
| Monday Morning Motivation Newsletter |
September 21, 2009 |
|
Greetings!
Good Morning! I want to thank all of my subscribers and welcome all of my new friends that I met at the live broadcast of the “On The Line with Rev. Horace Sheffield” radio show, or The Fuller Woman Expo this past weekend. This morning I prayed and meditated long and hard on a message that would touch at least one of you, so I hope that “Get Infected” speaks to something that’s been on your heart, or gives you some much needed confirmation.
If you know someone else that needs a little extra encouragement, forward this message to them (using the link at the bottom) and suggest that they subscribe in time to receive my Midweek Motivational Message on Wednesday Morning.
I want to personally invite all of you to join me this weekend as I celebrate the official release of my new novel, “Swag.” We will be engaging in the Swag Book Release Experience on Friday (September 25th) at the luxurious MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit beginning at 5pm in Lacquer (The Hotel Lobby Gift Shop) and moving to the lavish club, Amnesia at 9pm for the After Glow. When you purchase your autographed copy of Swag you will get a Swag Bag full of valuable giveaways such as books, music, art, gift certificates and jewelry.
Since the first half of the evening is in the hotel, this is a family friendly event (5pm to 9pm) so bring your children if child care proves to be a barrier. This event will also be an amazing networking opportunity because I have artists and professionals coming from all over the country to celebrate this joyous occasion with me. The event is absolutely free and the experience will be priceless.
For more information or to purchase the book if you can’t make it to the book release visit my website and click on the Events tab for the a
ddress and details.

Get Infected!
“Surround Yourself With People That Are Driven. It’s Contagious. Get Infected.”
-Monica Marie Jones, The Inspirationista!
Close your eyes and take a moment to reflect upon the people that you surround yourself with. What are they like? How do they talk? What do they do? Now think about how the company that you keep affects you?
I’ve found that when I am negative, or when I hang around people that are negative that it is highly contagious. Minutes turn into hours of complaining and gossiping and when those conversations come to an end, we find ourselves in silence without much left to talk about.
The same is the case when I find myself in the midst of people that are positive and driven. The difference is that the positive commentary and activity is infinite.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve found that being driven is a mandatory pre-requisite. When you run your own business, or when you are pursuing your passion and walking in your purpose, the work never ends. There is always something more that can be done in a bigger and better way. There is always room for growth. Negativity is stagnant and leaves you in an abyss of bitterness. When you are driven, time and energy are precious and much better spent on working to achieve goals instead of being zapped and drained by negativity.
Now take a moment to self reflect. Are your test results negative or positive? Are you the one going around spreading the disease of negativity or sitting there talking to someone that is infected, falsely thinking that you are immune? A sneeze guard or face mask can’t protect you. This epidemic can enter through your ears, your mind and your heart.
In this rare case you want your test results to be positive. A positive test result means that you are infected with the driven virus. Let me give you a F.L.U Shot (Faith & Leadership Unlimited) to build up your supply of drive and ward off the adverse affect of the negativity.
So right now, wherever you are I encourage you to find the most driven people that you know and surround yourself with them. It’s contagious. Get Infected!

Popular Writers Group Hosts Annual Celebration of Literacy
Detroit, MI (July 31, 2009)—Motown Writers Network presents its sixth annual Essence of Motown Literary Meet and Greet showcasing local and national authors on Saturday, August 8 from 11am-2pm at Barnes and Noble (WSU Campus) 82 W. Warren, Detroit. Panelists will discuss areas such as marketing and promoting before and after publishing, finding readers and working together to create a stronger reading community.
More than 50 popular authors are scheduled to attend the event that has grown into one of Michigan’s premier literacy and literary events. Dozens of book lovers of all ages will experience the joys of purchasing autographed books, hearing passages from their favorite authors and and celebrating the written word. Some of the featured authors include:
- jessica Care moore, poet and recording artist
- Karen White Owens, best-selling romance author
- Jacqueline D. Moore, African American Literary Award Nominee
- Sandra Epps, author and artist
- Monique Mensah, new author of dramatic fiction
“In a city that plays host to a multitude of writing talent, there are, surprisingly, very few outlets for networking within the Detroit literary community,” admits Motown Writers Network founder Sylvia Hubbard. “Aspiring Metro Detroit writers and authors will be happy to forego their otherwise national travels to attend this wondrous local event.”
Motown Writers Network, which began in 2004, brings together literary groups, readers, poets, illustrators and publishing professionals in order to strengthen the literary community.

What made you become a writer?
As a young child, I began writing in a journal to process my emotions about
boys, teasing, and all of the other major issues in the life of a 7 year old.
I continued that throughout my teen years and young adulthood. I also
added writing short stories, and poetry. After graduation from Graduate
School in 2003 I began writing my first novel, the Ups
and Downs of Being Round. During the process of writing that, I
sent an excerpt to Chicken Soup
for the Girl’s Soul and they published it in the book in 2005. I have
been writing and publishing ever since!
Where does your inspiration and/or
passion come from to stay in the business of writing?
As strange as it may seem, much of my inspiration comes from painful
experiences. My passion comes from my ability to use my experiences and words
to inspire, motivate, educate, entertain and add value to the lives of others
who read my work.
What is your latest book?
My Latest Book is called FLOSS which is about six socialites who use money,
cars, jewelry, good looks and other material and external things to measure
their worth. They soon learn that these things came at a far higher cost
than they bargained for. FLOSS is the first of a series of books that
explore the things that Urban America equates with the pursuit
of happiness. The next release, and second installment of the
series is called SWAG which is about a talented singer who goes on a reality
show to learn how to take her talents to the next level.
List any literary endeavors or events
forthcoming?
My literary endeavors include using the issues addressed in my books as a
platform for motivational speaking and fitness coaching. I also plan to
release my second poetry book this year. I teach kickboxing at Northwest
Activities Center and I can also come to you to do a class with your group or
personal training in kickboxing, aerobics or dance.
